Access control and machine control
The RamiSmart access control solution provides a comprehensive and easy-to-use system for monitoring the movement of people and vehicles on a construction site.
Why is access control important on construction sites?
Access control is an important part of the safety and efficient operations on a construction site. It helps monitor people and goods that enter the site, thus ensuring safety and protecting the resources on site. This reduces the risk of accidents and theft and makes the site more efficient.
What are the benefits of access control?
- Safety: Access control reduces the risk of unknown or unauthorized people entering the construction site, which increases the overall safety of the site. Controlled and restricted access to a construction site reduces the risk of accidents and misconduct.
- Monitoring: You can monitor closely the movement of people and goods on a construction site, thus allowing you to notice and react to any suspicious events.
- Efficiency: Access control optimizes the movement of people and the use of resources on site, improving the flow of work.
- Compliance with legislation: Access control helps meet statutory obligations to monitor and report on the movement of people on site.
How does access control work?
Access control is based on various identification and monitoring systems, such as access cards, pin codes, biometric identification or digital applications. Workers and vehicles are registered in the system, and their site access is checked and monitored. People or vehicles not registered with the access control system are usually denied access to the site or their access is restricted. This may include, for example, gates closing or alarms going off.
The system has access to Vastuu Group’s database for automatic data retrieval and personal and company data checkups.
Reporting and monitoring:
- The system generates an up-to-date list of people and traffic on site.
- The data can be used to calculate the hours worked on site.
- RamiSmart provides an employee report required by the Tax Administration with all the necessary information included. If needed, Ramirent can also submit the report.
– the site is a shared construction site, i.e. there are two or more companies working at the same time or one immediately after the other.
– the total value of the contracts at the site is over €15,000 excluding VAT.
All mandatory data for the Tax Administration’s report is also compulsory in RamiSmart, and RamiSmart compiles a monthly report to the Tax Administration based on movement data. The report can be sent to an email specified by the customer or directly to the Tax Administration. The report is produced in the file format specified by the Tax Administration and is ready for filing at ilmoitin.fi.
Installation and support
Ramirent provides installation, training and support for the implementation of the access control system and the equipment for access control.
Movement of people
- Wall readers and access control devices
- Turnstiles
- Electric locks and control
Movement of vehicles
- Sliding gates
- Bi-folding speed gates
- Gate barriers
Equipment tracking
RamiSmart’s equipment tracking helps track and locate equipment on site, making it easier to find and position equipment and streamline maintenance and inspections.
Benefits for construction sites
- Tracking equipment on construction sites is easier when the placement of the equipment on site is clearer.
- The internal logistics of construction equipment becomes easier when the location of equipment is known.
- Faster maintenance.
- Managing and performing regular equipment inspections is easier.
- Used in conjunction with machine control, tracking improves the efficient use of equipment and optimizes the equipment fleet on site.
Person detection on high-rise construction sites
RamiSmart’s person detection provides an easy and reliable solution for complying with the regulations for high-rise construction, thus ensuring a safe working environment by monitoring the number of people on different floors. Several laws and regulations control high-rise construction. In practice, the high-rise construction regulations come into force when the building is 12-stories high and the facade is complete.
Safer lifting device operation
Employees must have a written authorization from the employer for operating forklift trucks and devices for lifting persons and sufficient ability and skills to operate the work equipment (Government Decree on the Safe Use and Inspection of Work Equipment 2008/403, Section 14). However, in many cases it is challenging to supervise the operation of lifting devices while work is in progress, and they may be operated by workers who are not familiar with them. With RamiSmart’s machine control, the authorization to operate a lifting device can be stored in the system and a control unit attached to the device ensures that only those with an electronic authorization ID (Valttikortti or equivalent) can operate the lifting device.
Efficiency through sharing
RamiSmart’s machine control allows you to manage not only access rights but also machine-specific access rights. Individual pieces of equipment can be reserved from a digital calendar, which ensures that only certain users or groups of users have access to the lifting device for the duration of the work. This makes it easier to share equipment, as there is no need to reserve it several days in advance “just in case”. Moreover, costs are kept under control as lifting device rentals are limited to actual working time and there are no wasted days. Machine control and the booking calendar are also good tools for organizing the lifting device fleet on site. All lifting devices booked via RamiSmart can be gathered in one “lifting device parking area” with a charging point and regular equipment inspections. This means that equipment is always available, in working order and can be easily reserved for future work.
Using a Valttikortti card, it was quick and easy to rent and return a lifting device in the one and the same place even when the device was needed unexpectedly. And there was no need to order the lifting device and wait for it to arrive at the construction site.
Knowledge is power
The digital management and usage history of equipment provide new opportunities and tools to manage and monitor the efficiency of the equipment fleet. You can retrieve reports on equipment usage and usage rates from the system. Competent and proactive project staff can use the data to determine equipment utilization rates at any given time and react quickly and effectively to increase or decrease capacity. This brings cost savings and promotes efficient and uninterrupted operations on site. Modern digital tools and cooperation between different actors can bring significant improvements in site safety and efficiency.
